This piece is connected to design because I was challenged to transform an 80-acre neighborhood that is currently undergoing various social, economic, and environmental deterioration into a desirable place to live in despite its location within the 100-year floodplain while being next to an active industrial site. Through research and analysis of the site’s current conditions and various floodplain management methods in addition to client and stakeholder inputs, I proposed a design solution that will serve as a framework for the redevelopment of the Olde North Neighborhood. By introducing new programs that resonate with the site’s current demographic and environmental conditions and historical context, the newly revitalized Olde North may ultimately become the next big destination both Green Bay and Wisconsin’s greater Northeast region.
