Hunted Jacket

This project was inspired by the extinction of the Carolina Parakeet. In the late 1800's it became fashionable for women to wear the birds on their hats as decoration. Because of this trend the species was hunted to extinction. This jacket is intended to make a statement on the victims of the fashion industry. The embroidered riffle is based off an 1880 model which is the year the species became extinct in the wild. The logos of well-known fashion brands are painted on the stock of the gun to represent the role trends played in the destruction of the parakeet. The jacket is intended to make people think about how the clothes they wear impact the world around them.
