Project 1: First Loom Sampler

Name: Christie Suchomel
Class: DS 226, Weaving I, Marianne Fairbanks
Major: Apparel Design

After putting my first warp on a floor loom, I was eager to weave and create pattern. I was excited about all of the different patterns I was getting and how even two different colors of thread could make so many different designs. There were infinite possibilities. I continued exploring these patterns by using a different weft for awhile and then switching to a different one a little after that. After my piece was finished, off the loom and pinned on the wall, I was immediately intrigued by the length of my piece. I wanted to continue with this inspiration and add it to the front of a maxi dress. The design stays together simply at the top of the dress but continues to travel downward and split into a chaotic weave of color and design until fringe is reached. This compliments the designs and materials used to create this sampler.
